3 Ways to Get Advice From Red Door Before You Hire Us
If you're trying to decide whether to stage a listing, or whether a room in your own home needs a rethink, you don't need a signed contract to ask us about it!
Call and ask
We are happy to brainstorm when realtors call to find out whether a listing needs full staging, a lighter touch, or nothing at all. We’ve also counseled homeowners who reach out, trying to figure out whether staging is worth the investment for their property. Sometimes the honest answer is that you don't need us as much as you need to take care of maintenance and upgrades — and we’ll let you know. First-time sellers or realtors staging for the first time often don't know what staging involves or what to look for in a stager. We’re happy to walk them through the process and share what to look for in their service provider.
For interior decorating clients, we offer a complimentary 15-minute call. That’s a great way for clients to tell us what they’re looking for and find out if our team and our services are the right fit. Any design advice comes later, during the paid site visit — but the introductory conversation doesn't cost anything, and we believe it’s an important foundation for the process.

Take the class
Every year, we teach a class through Arlington Community Education (ACE) called "Fall in Love with Your Home Again," for people who are staying in their home rather than selling it. It's $35 for 2 hours — we donate the teacher pay back to ACE — and it covers the kinds of thing we'd otherwise only discuss in a paid consultation: rooms that feel slightly off, layout challenges, where and how to source furniture. You can find current course listings through Arlington Community Education.
Read what we've written
Some of our advice is already written down and searchable, on our site and elsewhere. On our own blog, posts like "When Planning Lighting, Think About Cohesion" and "When Should You Call a Home Stager? Earlier Than You Think" cover the kinds of questions we often hear. Local and national press has also called on us over the years — Redfin recently asked for our take on what buyers notice during a house tour, the Boston Globe called last spring for advice on what first-time homeowners should do in year one, and previously for a piece on choosing the right neutral paint.
